Flashback on Chelsea's Title race in Champions League


Chelsea has won the Champions league for the first time in their history this season. Lets make an analysis on the game they went through to win the title.

The Path to the Champions league for Chelsea started when they battled to qualify for the place of champions league in English Premier league table on 2010-2011. Chelsea ended in the second position just winning Manchester city by goal difference and were eligible to play on the group stages of Champions league. They lied on Group E along with Leverkusen, Valencia and Genk and ended top of the group. Winning 3, drawn on 2 and loosing 1 game, they gather 11 points in the group stage of the tournament leading the group.

As a group leader, they played against the Group A runner ups Napoli and suffered 3-1 defeat on Napoli's home on the first leg of Round of 16 match. Later on Di Matteo's supervision, Chelsea were able to comeback from huge trail to step their foot to the quarter Finals. The blues were able to win Napoli 4-1 on the extra time to vividly enter the quarter finals by 5-4 aggregate win. Ivanovic's goal on 105' helped the blues to proceed to further round.

Quarter finals were clear win as Chelsea were able to capture both legs of the game winning 1-0 on the first leg at Benfica home and keeping the lead at Stamford bridge wining 3-1 on aggregate.

Semi-Finals looked quite difficult for Di Matteo's side as the Spanish powerhouse were comparatively looking more stronger but the defensive strategy helped Chelsea take 1 goal leads on the first leg stopping Barcelona to score on the first leg at home. With 1-0 lead, Chelsea hunted down Barcelona at Camp Nou, stopping them to take over the lead. Ramires and Torres scored to secure Chelsea's 3-2 aggregate win to proceed to the finals. No doubt Peter Cech was the man to deserve all the credit for the semi-final win.

The finals was expected to be exiting as it was Bayern on their home to host Chelsea for the game. Bayern showed some pressure in the starting minutes but it was again Cech who interrupted Bayern's attempt on goal. The late minute Müller's goal was equalized by Drogba to take the game to extra time and then penalty after 90 minuted passed 1-1.
It was Drogba to finish the game perfectly as his last penalty was deciding one to lift the title. Cech once again proved his commitment to the team saving Olic's penalty.

Chelsea won the Champions league for the first time in their history compensating their loss against Manchester United in Champions league final 2007-2008.
